Fortnite is the most popular game in the world right now, a battle royale free to play game across every game system. My son decided we should have matching Fortnite costumes.

Make an EVA Foam Legend of Zelda Master Sword & Scabbard
Legend of Zelda Master Sword
Halloween is approaching and it's time to start making. I'm working on a Link costume from The Legend of Zelda.
This is for a child's costume, so foam is a safer material than wood or resin.

Foam Fun: Building a Sword
Here is sword that is relatively safe as it's foam, cheap to make, and light weight.
You need a hobby blade, a hot glue gun, and a solder iron. A rotary tool would also be useful.

I am using the Elder Scrolls Daedra sword as inspiration.
I started with 3/8" eva foam mats. I scaled the sword
to 36" overall as it 'felt' right to me. I printed a full size pattern and began cutting.

Building a Jake the Pirate Sword
I had been planning to make my son a Jake the Pirate sword of the Neverland Pirates fame (it's a kids show). After he told me out of the blue he wanted a Jake sword, I decided to get to work.
I drew a template in Google Sketchup to get proportions correct.

So, You Need a Mask to Frighten People
This is a great introduction to foam building. Foam is an easy medium with which to work, cheap, and requires few tools.
This mask uses EVA foam. It can be found at various retail outlets and automotive retailers. I buy the interlocking 24" square floor mats.
You will need a hobby knife, a hot glue gun, and a heat gun. A wood burning iron or solder iron is useful too.

Bracers
I wanted leather bracers, but I didn't want to pay leather bracer prices. Not to mention, I've never worked with leather.
